Destination Cape Smokey Tree Walk Delayed to 2022 – Gondola and Other Activities Pushed Forward.

COVID-19 has created manufacturing and import delays, causing specialty pieces for Destination Cape Smokey’s Tree Walk construction to be delayed and bumping the grand opening for this specific aspect of the project to 2022. The gondola is currently on schedule and set to be installed later this spring for a July 2021 opening.

Martin Kejval, CEO of Destination Cape Smokey, ensures, “The foundations for the Tree Walk are already in place. It’s coming to Ingonish as soon as we have the materials. We couldn’t have foreseen a pandemic; but we can adjust and keep pressing forward with this project.”

To adjust for this, Cape Smokey Holdings Ltd. is moving forward with other activities that had previously been planned as “Phase Two” of the project. A natural walk incorporating educational signage, three different view point areas with food and beverage options, and preparing for the ski hill to be more accessible to snow mobiles have become priorities.

“We have a few exciting things in the works that we hope to share soon. We are grateful for the support and understanding of our community as we navigate COVID-19 guidelines and manufacturing delays. Our goal is to make this summer, and seasons to come, inclusive and enjoyable for all who venture out on the Cabot Trail.”
